In 2003, two friends had similar experiences on opposite sides of the country. One,
living in Washington DC, needed auto glass. He got his new windshield with a
quick online search and a phone call – and the glass was installed at his home the
next day. After that pleasant experience, he needed new tires. He assumed that the
same kind of convenient mobile service should be easy to find for tires. Wrong...there
was no such service. Instead, he spent some unhappy hours at a local tire store,
while imagining a better way….
The other, in Los Angeles, needed to replace a tire and got an expensive quote from
his dealer. He exclaimed: ‘oh, I only need one tire, not four!’ Unfortunately, the
price was for a single tire. While writing a large check, he wondered why there
wasn’t a better way….
Those two guys were TireVan founders David Leslie and Pat Garvey. The two shared
their experiences, and TireVan was born in Sterling, VA. As Tire industry outsiders, they were sure
there had to be a better way to get new tires. They spoke of car owners throughout Northern Virginia and found widespread frustration.
No one liked having
to get a ride to or from the tire store, or killing time drinking bad coffee and reading old
magazines in tire store waiting rooms. Many worried about being sold
the wrong tire. Everyone felt tires were too expensive. And it was common to
walk away
spending even more for tune-ups, brake work, or other services they weren’t sure
they needed. Pat and Dave were convinced there was a huge opportunity if TireVan
could provide customers 3 things:
Eliminate the trip to a tire store by providing mobile installation. Make it easy

Run an efficient, low-overhead business, and pass the cost savings along to customers
in the form of the lowest possible prices.
